Dentists and Depositions
To be more specific, the title of this entry should be "Dentists and Their First Time in a Deposition." If you are a dentist, and you have been deposed in litigation at least once, then by your second deposition you will have a much better feel for what to expect and how to conduct yourself through the experience. Certainly, after the third and fourth time, you will be almost a pro at it, and in all likelihood you will have become a very tough nut to crack.
However, for first-timers as a deponent, you are probably going to be a basket case through the entire event no matter how well your attorney prepares you. This is completely understandable and very common. Human nature will take over, and you will be both conversational and polite, which will lead to you providing answers you did not intend to give, and to creating more surface area from which the deposing attorney will spend more time grilling you on.
So, how should you prepare? You can start by watching this video, "Preparation of Dentists for Their First Deposition."
